love_china Posted March 30, 2010 at 02:03 AM Report Posted March 30, 2010 at 02:03 AM Hi, I recently applied at BFSU via an email address I found on this site: http://hy.bwpx.com/ I'm not sure if I applied at the right one because I noticed the school also has the website : http://www.bfsu.edu.cn/ Does anyone know if there is a difference? I hope I applied correctly! I want to apply for the 20 hour/week chinese language program. When I pasted the first link into google, it came up under the website "lb.bfsu.edu.cn" as well. Is that website the same thing as the 2nd one? What does the "lb" part mean? Anyone know if I applied on a legit website? I emailed them all my documents and they said they would let me know in a month. Quote
sebhk Posted March 30, 2010 at 04:27 AM Report Posted March 30, 2010 at 04:27 AM The real website definitely is http://www.bfsu.edu.cn/ (http://lb.bfsu.edu.cn). Not sure what the other website is exactly, but the URL (http://hy.bwpx.com/) and contact email (beiwaipeixun@163.com) look very suspicious. Real Chinese universities don't use .com domains and usually have an .edu or .edu.cn in their URL. In addition to that, the information on that website is incomplete. Hope you did not give them any money or credit card information yet. Quote
roddy Posted March 30, 2010 at 06:06 AM Report Posted March 30, 2010 at 06:06 AM I wouldn't worry about it too much - university websites and email provision are often so bad that different departments will just set up their own for the sake of getting things done quicker and more efficiently. Crucially the same bank account info appears on both sites. Obviously exercise caution when doing anything with money online, but don't be too put off by a different domain. Quote
