FangShi Posted March 30, 2010 at 01:23 PM Report Posted March 30, 2010 at 01:23 PM 大家好! This is my first post on this awesome forum. Actually I got an account, because I am desperately looking for the complete set of T.K. Ann: Cracking the Chinese Puzzle. All 5 volumes, Hardcover. Is there any source from which I can buy the complete set of 5 in very good condition or new for under $300? amazon.de and amazon.co.uk have them but it says "Momentarly out of stock" for as long as I checked. If someone knows where I can get it I would really appriciate that. Right now I am in Taiwan, so if you guys know a shop here or in HK that would also help. Quote
Trez Posted June 28, 2010 at 08:11 AM Report Posted June 28, 2010 at 08:11 AM Hi, I have all 5. It took me some time. If I were you I would use Amazon.com the USA site. Worst case scenario is you get the condenced version which is all 5 volumes in one book plus a separate small book as an index. Quote
hanyu_xuesheng Posted June 28, 2010 at 10:56 AM Report Posted June 28, 2010 at 10:56 AM I have all 5 hardcover books and the condensed paperback version since 1992. They are the best books for studying and memorizing characters, IMHO much better than Heisig/Richardson's, Hoenig's & Matthews' books. The only thing I don't like in T.K.Ann's series is the index book (only 4-corner, no pinyin index). You may look for the books thru justbooks.de, an easy way to find rare books: (1) http://www.justbooks.de/search/?st=xl&ac=qr&isbn=9627056014 (2) http://www.justbooks.de/search/?st=xl&ac=qr&isbn=9627056022 (3) http://www.justbooks.de/search/?st=xl&ac=qr&isbn=9627056030 (4) http://www.justbooks.de/search/?st=xl&ac=qr&isbn=9627056049 (5) http://www.justbooks.de/search/?st=xl&ac=qr&isbn=9627056057 Paperback (abridged, no index) http://www.justbooks.de/search/?st=xl&ac=qr&isbn=9627056146 Good luck! 889 Posted June 28, 2010 at 11:49 AM Report Posted June 28, 2010 at 11:49 AM You'll find some sets for sale at abebooks.com, though not within your budget. You can also use www.usedbooksearch.co.uk/US.htm , a meta-search service that searches a number of used book sites. Also, when making a sizeable purchase, there's no reason not to ask for a sizeable discount from the bookseller, especially in this economy. The worst that can happen is, he says "No." Quote
sukitc Posted August 31, 2010 at 07:32 AM Report Posted August 31, 2010 at 07:32 AM I bought the abridged paperback version in Hong Kong in 1991. Unless they have improved the binding, I would not recommend buying it. I guess because they try to fit so many pages into one paperback, the cover and the pages steadily fall apart. Quote
