xifbk Posted April 1, 2010 at 02:13 AM Report Posted April 1, 2010 at 02:13 AM (edited) Hi Guys, I am trying out pleco dict for iPhone. I have the Pleco C-E, Unihan, CC-CEDICT and Adso dictionaries installed. (I would ask this on the pleco forums but I have no idea how to get registration to work properly) When I search for "#idiom" I only get a few results, and the button on the bottom left of the screen only lets me switch between "PLC" and "ADS". Does anyone know how to do a full text search on the "CC-CEDICT"? A full text search on "idiom" on mdbg returns a large number of results: http://www.mdbg.net/chindict/chindict.php?page=worddict&wdrst=1&wdqb=idiom Edited April 1, 2010 at 02:25 AM by xifbk Quote
gato Posted April 1, 2010 at 10:18 AM Report Posted April 1, 2010 at 10:18 AM Full-text search doesn't seem to be supported on the free dictionaries on my version of Pleco. Maybe Mike Love can confirm. Quote
xifbk Posted April 1, 2010 at 03:29 PM Author Report Posted April 1, 2010 at 03:29 PM The strange thing is that the instruction manual says that it can do a full text search by putting a # character before the word. It seems that it is just not allowed on the CC-CEDICT which is odd! Quote
mikelove Posted April 1, 2010 at 03:39 PM Report Posted April 1, 2010 at 03:39 PM I just now downloaded a clean copy of the current version of Pleco from iTunes, registered it and installed CC-CEDICT and full-text search works fine, so this is very odd... have you tried resetting all settings to defaults? (in the "General" tab of Settings) It sounds like you might have an old version of the Pleco app with a newer (and incompatible) version of the CC-CEDICT database, oddly enough - if you go into the Pleco "About" box (Settings / About), what version number do you see listed? And in Add-ons / Installed, what date is listed when you tap on the item for CC-CEDICT? If CC-CEDICT isn't listed there, perhaps it hasn't yet downloaded successfully - is it still in the "Free" tab (maybe with a "download in progress" label)? Quote
xifbk Posted April 1, 2010 at 03:59 PM Author Report Posted April 1, 2010 at 03:59 PM When there is no text in the search box, I can use the bottom right icon to switch between PLC/ADS/CC. When there is chinese text "人" in the search box, I can use the bottom right icon to switch between PLC/ADS/CC. When there is english text "idiom" in the search box, I can only switch between PLC/ADS It says I am at the latest and that I am using 2.0.7, but your website says there is a 2.0.8. I am going to do a complete wipe and reinstall and see if that fixes it. Quote
mikelove Posted April 1, 2010 at 04:25 PM Report Posted April 1, 2010 at 04:25 PM 2.0.7 is the latest version, actually, we put up the manual for 2.0.8 prematurely thinking Apple would approve it faster than they have. (they're kind of backed-up from iPad stuff right now) So it sounds like that part at least is set up OK... are the only two add-on dictionaries you've installed Adso and CC-CEDICT? Have you downloaded trial versions of any other add-on dictionaries / modules? With your clean install, try registering the software and then installing ONLY CC-CEDICT from the "Free" tab - does that make any difference? Quote
xifbk Posted April 1, 2010 at 04:41 PM Author Report Posted April 1, 2010 at 04:41 PM I did have the demo versions of everything installed but they had all expired, I just the other day installed Adsotrans. After a full fresh install and then an install of CC-CEDICT it all works as expected now. (I can search for "idiom" and then use the bottom right icon to switch between PLC and CC, and all the expected results turn up) Then I installed ADS, and it still works as expected. Next step is to buy a bundle, however I will be a full time student in Taiwan soon, so I am thinking I need to wait so it is more affordable (: Quote
