Chinadoog Posted April 5, 2010 at 03:01 AM Report Share Posted April 5, 2010 at 03:01 AM Hey guys. So I've been having this problem with ANKI - I haven't been able to get to any of the cards that I created several months ago. I keep seeing the same cards over and over - all of which are the ones that have been added recently. Even if I click ''easy'' for all of them, they still come back before any of the older cards. I've tried changing around the settings to ''show cards in random order'' and what-not, but I still can't get to the older cards. Any suggestions? Thanks. natra Posted April 5, 2010 at 03:02 AM Report Share Posted April 5, 2010 at 03:02 AM I used Anki for a while, but then stopped because of that and other problems. I use Iflash now.
chrix Posted April 5, 2010 at 03:22 AM Report Share Posted April 5, 2010 at 03:22 AM well I've never experienced any problem like that... Anki just works fine for me...
anonymoose Posted April 5, 2010 at 04:16 AM Report Share Posted April 5, 2010 at 04:16 AM If you've got a backlog of new cards, it seems to show the latest additions first, which means if you're constantly adding new cards, you'll never get to the old ones added previously. I've noticed this on mine, though it doesn't bother me too much, as new vocabulary is still new vocabulary. You'll just need to work harder to clear the backlog. Guest realmayo Posted April 5, 2010 at 05:20 AM Report Share Posted April 5, 2010 at 05:20 AM I think Anki will only work the way it's supposed to if, normally, you answer all the questions that are due that day. To make sure you are doing that, first make sure you have entered 0 in the two "session limit" boxes on the Study Options screen. These cards you never get to see: have you answered them at least once before? If so: do a search for one of them, and see when its Due date is. If it's still some way in the future, then it means Anki is working fine -- the programme expects you aren't yet close to forgetting that card, so it doesn't see any point in showing it to you again so soon. If not: check that the "New cards per day" box in the Study Options screen is set to a reasonably high number, and choose the "Show new cards in order added" option from the first of the drop down menus on that same screen (you may have to click "More" first). Chinadoog Posted April 5, 2010 at 06:22 AM Author Report Share Posted April 5, 2010 at 06:22 AM I have a total of about 1,300 cards in my deck. The ''session limit'' boxes are at 0, and the cards due per day at 400. I went into the browse items section.. and a lot of the cards are expected to be due in more than a year. Some of my cards have already appeared 3+ times today. I keep saying that they are ''easy'' but they still keep coming up. If I save my decks and re-install ANKI, will that make them start from scratch?
Guest realmayo Posted April 5, 2010 at 06:24 AM Report Share Posted April 5, 2010 at 06:24 AM Did you alter any of the other settings? For instance, the interval settings here: Settings -> Deck Properties -> /Advanced Tab/
Guest realmayo Posted April 5, 2010 at 06:33 AM Report Share Posted April 5, 2010 at 06:33 AM Anyway, if you need to it's no problem to export all your cards to a new deck which will treat them all as brand new.
Chinadoog Posted April 5, 2010 at 06:56 AM Author Report Share Posted April 5, 2010 at 06:56 AM I tried altering everything except those advanced settings that you mentioned. Thanks for the help - I'm going to export the cards to a new deck and try and make sure that I go through all of the due cards each day. Guest realmayo Posted April 5, 2010 at 06:59 AM Report Share Posted April 5, 2010 at 06:59 AM OK. The only reasons I can think of for the strange behaviour is that some time earlier you had altered those advanced settings -- if you click on the help button on that box, it'll take you to a page where you can see what the defaults are. dreamon Posted August 20, 2010 at 07:09 PM Report Share Posted August 20, 2010 at 07:09 PM I tried to install ANKI for the first time, and have some questions: 1. Mandarin Toolkit and Pinyin Toolkit are the same things or not? I don't see any Mandarin Toolkit in the list of plugins. 2. Why is Anki (or Pinyin Toolkit) so ridiculously slow when it populates the audio field for a deck of characters? There are three issues here: first, it spends like 5 seconds per one hanzi; second, it makes a new copy of a pinyin sound file for each hanzi, rather than just linking to the plugin folder that has all sound files; third, it requires continuous Internet access for a task that it should do offline. 3. When moved to a flash drive, at each restart Anki gives me an error: "Broken plugin: Traceback ... RuntimeError: Path in environment MATPLOTLIBDATA not a directory.". Reinstalling all plugins did not fix it. The same error is mentioned here. ANKI experts, could you please comment?
Guest realmayo Posted September 2, 2010 at 07:33 AM Report Share Posted September 2, 2010 at 07:33 AM 1 no idea 2 'media', eg audio, pictures etc, are stored in a media directory, one media directory for each deck. If you're good at programming I guess you could ask the guy who programmed it why he thought that was the best way to do it. Personally, I think it's a very sensible and very smart idea. 3 I think you're more likely to find answers if you ask the programmer(s). check out the google groups forum for anki.
