Set up office - how to say?

I recommend that you could use “设立办事处”, for "设立" is used when refer to the set up of a branch office, while "创建" or "创立" implies that it is the main body of a company or institution to be created, as in "我公司创立于2002年" or “该学院创立于1850年”

"分处" is not bad, however, it is rarely used in China, especially in the mailand, and it may cause some misunderstanding.

Well, I don't know if my explanation satisfied you, for my English is not so good as your Chinese.

You could send me an email if you have further questions ^_^

The first one sounds the best to my ears (only based on my 语感, as they are not native speaker's ears). Google also gives most results for the first one...

I was wondering, since I'm most used to seeing 辦公室 used for "office," what the difference was between that and 辦事處. From what I can tell, they're basically the same. Is there a regional difference as to which is preferred, or is there some appreciable difference in meaning that I'm not seeing?

As I understand it, 办公室 is a simple office (like various offices at an university, each for handling specific tasks) and 办事处 is more like a "delegated office", e.g. Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, the de facto embassy of ROC, is called 駐捷克台北經濟文化辦事處 (in my country)

Ah, OK. Looking back at the definitions, it seems like that's what they were saying. I just wasn't quite getting it. Thanks for clearing that up for me!

I'd recommend using "设立办事处" as well, it sounds the best in the situation you're talking about.
