BrandeX Posted April 11, 2010 at 08:49 AM Report Posted April 11, 2010 at 08:49 AM Didn't we have a similar thread to this somewhere? I remember posting in it, but it seems to have been deleted. Anyway, here is a new article with some commentary regarding misconduct/plagiarism in academic research inside China. Rampant academic misconduct hampers China's efforts to lead global research Quote
simonlaing Posted April 16, 2010 at 01:50 AM Report Posted April 16, 2010 at 01:50 AM (edited) I remember there being a scientist that lost huge amounts of funding because he fudged some results and copied a Texas instruments chip design. It is an issue. Rao, the Peking University dean, remains skeptical.Government ministries are happy to fund research but not to police it, he said. "The authorities don't want to be the bad guy." They tell the professors the only way to get a promotion is to write 10 papers a year which is a lot, and there is almost no downside to outsourcing it as peer review and checking others papers hardly happens at all. have fun, Simon:) Edited April 16, 2010 at 02:01 AM by simonlaing Quote
