Mai Kairong Posted April 11, 2010 at 09:34 PM Report Posted April 11, 2010 at 09:34 PM I'm not sure if I put this in the right place... I have a Chinese friend who had a 15 yr old dog who she loved like her own child. I just found out that it died last month and that she's been having a hard time dealing with it. I'd like to send a sympathy card or note. We usually correspond in Chinese, but I'm not sure what the appropriate wording might be in this situation. Any advice? Thanks. Quote
skylee Posted April 11, 2010 at 11:49 PM Report Posted April 11, 2010 at 11:49 PM When my 18-year old cat died a couple of years ago, I sent this message to my brother - "你不要傷心,他年紀大了,平常也只能躺着。你把他照顧得很好,不枉緣份一場。” From my blog. Quote
Mai Kairong Posted April 12, 2010 at 09:03 PM Author Report Posted April 12, 2010 at 09:03 PM Thanks! Are there gentler terms to use for death, like in English when we say someone "passed away"? Quote
skylee Posted April 12, 2010 at 11:08 PM Report Posted April 12, 2010 at 11:08 PM 過身,過世,去世. For a pet I think you could use 去世. Or 離去 (left). Quote
