allmodcons Posted April 30, 2010 at 08:12 PM Report Posted April 30, 2010 at 08:12 PM Hey, I'm hoping to spend 1 - 2 months from about September/October in Beijing learning Chinese. I will be an absolute beginner and realise 1 - 2 months won't get me particularly far but I'm hoping to grasp some of the basics in terms of conversational chinese and reading/writing. I have whittled down my choice between: an 8-week course at the private language school CLE, or a 5-week course at Beihang University. I know both places are at opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to prices but I am mostly concerned on which will give me the best all-round grasp of spoken and written chinese and the size of their classes. I would really appreciate any advice/experiences/recommendations, etc with respect to these schools! Thanks! Quote
allmodcons Posted May 6, 2010 at 07:32 AM Author Report Posted May 6, 2010 at 07:32 AM Hey, Think maybe my question was a bit too specific! I think I'm now most likely to go with CLE as it's a longer course and Beihang Uni haven't replied to an email I've sent about their course. However, I would still appreciate any information people might have on CLE - i.e. what's it like to go there (location), what the accommodation is like, and most importantly what are the classes like? Any advice no matter how small would be much appreciated!! Just want to make sure I'm not making an expensive silly mistake by booking a course there! Thanks!! Quote
zhouhaochen Posted May 13, 2010 at 08:52 AM Report Posted May 13, 2010 at 08:52 AM hey, I guess you would need to let everyone know a bit more about what you are expecting (is this to be the foundation of seriously studying Chinese up to fluency or is the aim to get as fast as possible to a good "survival Chinese" level?). allmodcons Posted May 17, 2010 at 06:16 PM Author Report Posted May 17, 2010 at 06:16 PM Hey, It's basically to get as fast as possible to a good "survival Chinese" level as I only have 8 weeks or so to spend in China and want to do something constructive while there! Like I said, any advice or recommendations will be much appreciated! Thanks! Quote
