货车车厢

I don't think 火车车厢 has an exact analogue in English, because as I understand it, it refers to both large enclosed detachable things and also smaller non-detachable ones.

Some options:

Trailer. But a 'trailer' must be something with wheels that is detachable from the cab of the truck. Example - back parts of this.

Tray. Something that is attached to the back of a truck and open is a tray. Example

If you're just referring to the storage part of a smaller truck that is is non-detachable I'm not sure - 'back'? Example

It is called 车厢 if it is like a cubic container. Your are right, it is called 车斗 if it is a box that is open at the top. It might sound strange when I refer to the back of the truck my link leading to as 车厢.

If it helps, 厢 is definately like a case or box, dont forget that your suit case is nearly always referred to in this way, IMO: (行李厢) I've heard this loads of times, and a suit case is always a closed box.

Unless you like to lose your luggage.
