tooironic Posted May 12, 2010 at 02:13 PM Report Posted May 12, 2010 at 02:13 PM Wasn't sure if this was the right forum, but anyway... Does anyone know of any free, open-source Mandarin dictionary or corpus data available online that could be imported into Wiktionary? Anything like definitions, translations, glossaries, example sentences, etc, would be very helpful. We are trying to boost the presence of Mandarin there and it is an uphill battle. Disclaimer: I know very little about programming and all that jazz so please try to keep the jargon at bay. Cheers. Quote

renzhe Posted May 14, 2010 at 02:24 AM Report Posted May 14, 2010 at 02:24 AM CC-CEDICT is under Creative Commons license, apparently the very same that Wiktionary uses. It's the largest legal free, reusable Chinese dictionary that I'm aware of. You obviously can't relicense parts of it under GPL, like wiktionary states, though, so I don't know if it qualifies. I'd imagine that at least some of the Chinese wiktionary editors are aware of this, and if it's not being used, there are likely good reasons. Quote
