Hofmann Posted May 13, 2010 at 03:39 AM Report Posted May 13, 2010 at 03:39 AM Why is 阙 so popular then? Quote
Kenny同志 Posted May 13, 2010 at 12:27 PM Report Posted May 13, 2010 at 12:27 PM Why is 阙 so popular then? It is阕, not 阙(a typo) and it isn't popular, rarely used actually, probably only used in 诗词-related stuff. Quote
Scoobyqueen Posted May 13, 2010 at 12:38 PM Author Report Posted May 13, 2010 at 12:38 PM It is not 阙(a typo) and it isn't popular, rarely used actually, probably only used in 诗词-related stuff. Do you mean the paper made a typo in writing 阙? There are several other entries with the same sentence quoted in other sources. Quote
Kenny同志 Posted May 13, 2010 at 12:45 PM Report Posted May 13, 2010 at 12:45 PM Do you mean the paper made a typo in writing 阙? Yes, I do. Books published in the mainland are notorious for typos and piracy. The link in your quotation is wrong. Please check the edited version of my last comment. Quote

Kenny同志 Posted May 13, 2010 at 01:21 PM Report Posted May 13, 2010 at 01:21 PM 一阙壮阔豪迈的史诗,在世人眼前展开 In fact, 阙 should have been 首. 阕 is a measure word which refers to part of the 诗词 being discussed, but the sentence obviously refers to a complete epic. did they all get it wrong? Chinese media are 错字大王, kings of typos. I never trust them. Whenever I have doubts about a word, I turn to dictionaries or corpora. The three sources are the same. That means the editors didn't even take the trouble to have a glance at the report. Quote
Hofmann Posted May 13, 2010 at 01:36 PM Report Posted May 13, 2010 at 01:36 PM I was asking why Googling gives about 1000 hits for "一阙壮阔豪迈的史诗,在世人眼前展开" and 3 for "一阕壮阔豪迈的史诗,在世人眼前展开" And 2 for "一首壮阔豪迈的史诗,在世人眼前展开" Quote
Kenny同志 Posted May 13, 2010 at 01:52 PM Report Posted May 13, 2010 at 01:52 PM I was asking why Googling gives about 1000 hits for "一阙壮阔豪迈的史诗,在世人眼前展开" and 3 for "一阕壮阔豪迈的史诗,在世人眼前展开" And 2 for "一首壮阔豪迈的史诗,在世人眼前展开" There're so many hits because bad media are there. Fortunately, all do not follow the sheep. See 一首史诗, 438,000 hits, and 一阙史诗, 10 hits. Of course, the number of hits doesn't necessarily justify the usage. Dicitonaries have the final say. Quote
