I know Tibet, as so far as touring goes, is restricted to non-Chinese without the proper visa clearance ect, but I am wondering if anyone knows - is it possible for foreigners to obtain a student visa to study in Tibet?

hmm, unfortunately it seems it is only to study Tibetan.... if they had a Chinese language program, I don't think there would be any question where I would go ha. Oh well, maybe I should contact them in case.

You could easily learn Chinese in Lhasa. The new part of the city is basically all Han, and very few of them, if any, speak English. So, you could potentially learn Tibetan and Chinese (through self-study) at the same time, if you were so motivated. That's the type of thing I might have considered if I were young again!

Very interesting. Trying to click on the link Roddy provided, I got the error message "The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again." This is the first time I have received this error message, and is different than the typical time-out.

This really seems like an intentional blocking of the connection on China's part.

Anyone else seeing the same thing? [This is from the USA.]

That's strange. The page works from within China. It's the English site of Tibet University. Wonder why they would want to block it.

The pictures took a bit longer to finish downloading and I'm on broadband.

Though I'm also downloading TV shows on the Peer-to-Peer networks at the same time.
