design Posted May 15, 2010 at 11:07 PM Report Posted May 15, 2010 at 11:07 PM Hi everyone, I'm interested in studying abroad at Beijing Forestry Uni. next spring. I was wondering if anyone has studied abroad here or know how receptive they are to international students/how competitive the application process is. I would be taking their landscape architecture classes and because my Mandarin is only at the level of household-fluency, I wanted to be in an environment where there could be a possibility to convey my concerns/questions in English. My current university has no connections with BFU so I would be applying for direct enrollment. I'm also curious as to whether they grant scholarships to potential visiting students like myself. Thanks! 2 Quote
yonglin Posted May 16, 2010 at 03:05 AM Report Posted May 16, 2010 at 03:05 AM Given the fact that their website for international students is about 20 times more informative than the corresponding website for an average Chinese university (I've browsed a lot, believe me!), I would guess that they are most certainly receptive to international students. I would be extremely surprised if admission was competetive (for visiting students in particular): you are a cash cow to the university after all. It's probably more about meeting the minimum requirements (e.g., HSK), submitting the fees on time, etc. You might be able to apply for a CSC scholarship. As to whether people understand English, you might want to check whether faculty in the concerned department were trained abroad and/or publish in international journals. If this is not the case, I would deem it quite unlikely that they could hold a discussion on landscape architecture in English. (I'm a graduate student in a different field in an English speaking country, and I cannot hold even a simple conversation on my field in my mother tongue!) Quote
