jackiechanbabe Posted May 19, 2010 at 04:15 AM Report Share Posted May 19, 2010 at 04:15 AM Hi. I'll be in Qingdao for about 2 months and would like a cell phone. Does anyone have advice on the best cell phone options for a short-term stay? Should I buy one there (I don't know Chinese)? Get one ahead of time? Sim card it? Thanks! GreenArrow45 Posted May 19, 2010 at 05:17 AM Report Share Posted May 19, 2010 at 05:17 AM you can buy a decent cell phone for around 200 RMB in China, so unless you can buy one for that cheap without a plan before coming over, I would just wait. Shadowdh Posted May 19, 2010 at 06:23 AM Report Share Posted May 19, 2010 at 06:23 AM But if you dont read Chinese then you might have problems with the instructions on the phone as it will probably be in Chinese... if you can get a good phone at home cheaply then you will have no problem using a Chinese sim... loads of plans available... roddy Posted May 19, 2010 at 06:29 AM Report Share Posted May 19, 2010 at 06:29 AM Even the cheapest of phones* will have English menus - you might need to get the shop to set it to English though. *A 150Y Motorola did anyway. Ask if you're buying one.
valikor Posted May 20, 2010 at 02:32 PM Report Share Posted May 20, 2010 at 02:32 PM My 300 yuan "K-Touch" has English, a color screen, a still/video camera, music player, FM radio, DIY studio (I don't know what that is, but it sounds cool), voice recorder, and can use 2 SIM cards (something that some of my friend's 2,000RMB phones cannot do!). I bought it new. If you only want a phone that "can be used" for 2 months, you could probably get one for under 100 yuan. If you don't speak any chinese, that just means it will be even more fun to buy it. Just don't get ripped off!
