bicboi Posted May 22, 2010 at 07:33 PM Report Share Posted May 22, 2010 at 07:33 PM What is the correct chinese name for Janice? I found two versions on the internet and I am confused: http://chineseculture.about.com/library/name/female/blna_janice.htm or 詹妮丝?
renzhe Posted May 22, 2010 at 09:28 PM Report Share Posted May 22, 2010 at 09:28 PM No need to be confused, it is impossible to write English names in Chinese, and any such transliteration will be just an approximation. Both the versions you posted are approximations: zhennīsī and zhānnīsī, respectively. Both can be used to transcribe "Janice" or "Janis". I don't know which one is more common. 889 Posted May 22, 2010 at 09:35 PM Report Share Posted May 22, 2010 at 09:35 PM There's also 贾尼斯 Gunisi. As mentioned above, there's no correct or incorrect in choosing a Chinese name.
renzhe Posted May 22, 2010 at 09:59 PM Report Share Posted May 22, 2010 at 09:59 PM Well, there are some character combinations that are very unfortunate, and would never be picked for a name But the two given by the original poster are both perfectly fine. 珍 is treasure 詹 is a common surname 妮 means girl 丝 is silk (traditional: 絲)
