trien27 Posted May 29, 2010 at 12:14 AM Report Posted May 29, 2010 at 12:14 AM Yeah, I thought that (modern) xian was 長安 as the capital city until it was moved during the Three Kingdoms period. Has it been renamed name times? Before the Tang dynasty, this area was known by different names and therefore have many different capitals depending on the "dynasty". Only after the Ming dynasty was it called "Xi'an". The Three Kingdoms was three kingdoms which had different capital cities, none of which was Xi'an/Chang'an. Chang'An was the capital of ten Chinese dynasties. Three Kingdoms = 1. 魏, Wei [Capital = In 364 BC, the state of Wei during the Warring States Period founded a city called Daliang (modern Kaifeng) as its capital in this area.] 2. 蜀漢, Shu (Han) [capital = Chengdu (provincial capital of Sichuan province today)] 3. 吳, Wu [capital = Wuchang, 武昌 in Hubei province and at times in Jianye, 建業, which is modern Nanjing/Nanking, 南京 = provincial capital of Jiangsu province].
