For some reason you can stuff (linguistically speaking) all kinds for words between 帮 and 忙

帮个忙,好吗? - How about helping me out?

我帮不上你的忙。 - I can't help you with that.

他帮我一个忙。 - He gave me some help.

你真是帮了我一个大忙! - You were certainly a big help.

What other verbs are like this?

睡觉 seems similar because you can say 睡一天的觉

Is there are special name for this type of verb?

Or am I think about it wrong.

Is 帮 a verb and 忙 a noun? Does 忙 just mean "favor" in this situation?

Grammatically different, but also worth knowing is the lovely 帮倒忙.

Here's another spoken Chinese 你嘛幫幫忙?! when you're trying to express 'Oh! C'mon! Give me a break!' ;)
