张卢卡 Posted June 3, 2010 at 11:09 PM Report Posted June 3, 2010 at 11:09 PM Hi everyone! I have just received the notification from Beijing University that I will be studying there for one year as a general visiting student. In addition I have been enrolled in their College of Economics, but I am not pretty sure of what that means, since my level of Chinese would not probably be good enough to attend such classes. Never mind, I just wanted to know if someone is currently studying there or has ever had anything to do with Beijing University as I would like to start gaining some valuable form of information. Lastly, one of my main issue is finding an accommodation. The only thing that I was sent by the university is a notification letter, hence nothing in regards to their provided accommodation. I know there is a centre called Shau Yuan, but there is barely a contact included in their information. I am indeed thinking to rent my own place or eventually live with a Chinese family. Any suggestions? Thank you guys! Quote
kal1189 Posted June 28, 2010 at 10:45 AM Report Posted June 28, 2010 at 10:45 AM Hello 张卢卡, I am also going to study in PKU this fall semester to study Chinese. The number for the Shaoyuan dormitories is 86-10-62752218, I got this from the OIR since I was asking the same question before. Hope this helps, As of now I am trying to find apartments because the rooms look really small in a youtube video i saw. But it is also a hassle to look for apartments in wudaokou if you don't know anyone in beijing, therefore I am also still undecided with which type of accommodations i will get. Quote
张卢卡 Posted July 1, 2010 at 10:14 AM Author Report Posted July 1, 2010 at 10:14 AM Hi! Thanks for your reply! I have watched that video as well, it is pretty scary! Since conditions in the dorms do not seem appropriate, I'm going to find my own place as soon as I get to Beijing. I will arrive there on the 6th of August, probably staying in hostels for the first period. Another doubt which I have is in regards to the physical examination and the blood tests which are required in order to enroll with PKU. Are you going to get these done prior to your departure to China or will you be doing these tests once you arrive in Beijing? My Skype ID is luisi.gianluca if you would like to exchange some more information! I believe I will be studying at the Economics Department, what about you? Regards Gianluca Luisi Quote
kal1189 Posted July 4, 2010 at 03:05 PM Report Posted July 4, 2010 at 03:05 PM Is your registration/ orientation also on the 29th? If so won't you be arriving quite early on the 6th? I will be taking up chinese language studies only with no degree. So I don't think we will be classmates. haha What exactly are you taking in PKU? are you an excellent Mandarin speaker taking up economics classes in Chinese? I haven't gotten any news yet that I will be needing any medical certificates, maybe thats because I have only been accepted for a semester's stay. Maybe the rules are a bit different. My Skype ID is lim.kem add me up! I'd love to chat. Quote
