tjazi Posted June 6, 2010 at 10:43 PM Report Posted June 6, 2010 at 10:43 PM Hi! We're a group of four students of physics from Slovenia that intend to undertake a journey across the Trans-Siberian railway and spend the last couple of days up until the 14th of August this summer in Beijing. While we're there we thought it'd be great if we could tap into the local student scene a bit, meet some people and such. Anyone care to have a cup of tea with us (it's on us ;) and show us around a bit? Also, all of our dreams would be fulfilled if we could crash at a campus for a night or two. Does anyone know if something like this is possible? Any hints on where to inquire about it would also be highly appreciated as I didn't find much useful info on the university websites. Cheers Matjaž Quote
roddy Posted June 7, 2010 at 02:58 AM Report Posted June 7, 2010 at 02:58 AM You might want to try couchsurfing.com, but for a group of four you may need to split up. University accommodation might be an option, but to be honest you'll probably get better value from a hostel or cheap hotel, and the universities aren't necessarily convenient for a lot of the tourist stuff you might want to be doing. Bear in mind that August is summer holidays - there will be a lot fewer Chinese students around, and a large number of the foreign students around will be high-school and college students on short study / party exchange visits. 1 Quote
gougou Posted June 7, 2010 at 03:14 AM Report Posted June 7, 2010 at 03:14 AM Anyone care to have a cup of tea with us (it's on us ;) May I suggest this thread? Just kidding, of course. On a more serious note, I second roddy's recommendation of couchsurfing. There's three weekly meet-ups all over town to get in touch with people, and of course you might even find a free place to stay. 1 Quote
tjazi Posted June 7, 2010 at 04:03 PM Author Report Posted June 7, 2010 at 04:03 PM Haha, you totally blew our tea-scamming cover! Anyway, initially we were just planning to go to a hostel but figured it would be somewhat wackier to sleep at a campus, though the couchsurfing thing sounds great too so thank you for that one! I guess we're gonna try that now but if anyone knows of a good way to realize our campus plan, suggestions are still very welcome cheers! Quote
