Sentence With A 动宾搭配不当 Grammatical Error

Hi all, the following problematic sentence came out of a grammar book: 「医生必须不断进修自己，才能帮助更多病人。」 The error was identified as being 动宾搭配不当, but I can't quite see where. Can someone please explain? Thanks.

(Just to clarify the thread, 进修自己 is the error.)

I think that 进修 is most often not paired with anything.

Also, if 进修 is going to be paired with something after it, it should be specific. For example, 进修我的中文. I think this is grammatically correct, although it sounds very awkward. Usually, one would simply say 提高我的中文水平。

The only other place where I see 进修 is in names for things, like 进修班, 进修学院, 进修课程, etc. Does this help at all?
