A friend says Chongwenmen has a big bookstore there, anyone know about it, the name of it? She said I could find high school texts there.

It’s 花市书店 near Chong Wen Men:

But since the school will begin the new semester in September, so I think the textbooks may not be complete until the end of July or August.

That must be the place. Well since I'll be there in early July I'll just go and see.

If you're near Chongwenmen then you're not far from Wangfujing and the bookstores there - not sure how they compare on the Chinese high school stuff, but the Wangfujing bookstore is pretty big.

I used to go to the Wangfujing bookstore all the time, if my memory is correct I remember the high school section was mostly test preparation books. I can't remember seeing high school textbooks for 语文 in the Wangfujing bookstore. I wonder if some bookstores are designated to sell high school textbooks? Maybe the 花市书店 is designated to do so?

A friend in Beijing thinks she has the old set of 语文 from her daughter's high school days, but I'm *also* wanting the brand new version, the whole set from 初中 to 高中 in print, not on computer.

The authoritative bookstores focusing on 课本 are not Wang Fu Jing bookstore, but 花市书店 (tel: 67120313) and 东单教育书店 (tel: 65128951), but I still don’t think early July is a suitable time for purchasing the 课本。If I were you, I don’t want to waste the time to go and return empty-handed, I would at first call them “你好,请问初中和高中的语文课本到货了吗?”, If not, I would directly go to Wang Fu Jing bookstore to choose books in the 对外汉语 section on third floor and in the children’s section on second floor.

no need to quote entire post directly above you

I always avoid the 对外汉语 and the children's section, because the materials there are not what I'm wanting or looking for.

I just found out my hotel in Beijing is closer to the 西单大图厦, which is a sight in itself that ranks up there with the 长城 in my opinion......
