Hi everybody,

I have a little problem translating the following sequence of a dialogue into english.

In fact I don't get the meaning of this dialogue...

The PinYin-translation should be:

Gao(1):

Wai(5)! Wai(5)! Ni(3) nar(3)? --> Hello! Anyone here?

Shi(4) Bai(2) Xian(1) Sheng(1) jia(1) ma(5)? --> Is Mr Bai at home?

Bai(2):

Shi(4). Nin(2) zhao(3) nei(4) wei(4) shuo(1) hua(4) --> I have no idea what this is meaning...

Gao(1):

Qing(3) Bai(2) xian(1) Sheng(1) shuo(1) hua(4) --> Again no idea...

Bai(2):

Wo(3) jiu(4) shi(4). Qing(3) wen(4), nin(4) shi(4) shei(2)? -->I'am here (not sure...). May I ask you, who you are?

If would be very nice if you could help me to understand the missing lines!

Thank you so far!

direct translation:

alo, alo, where is this/who am i speaking to? (should be 'wei' instead of slang-ish 'wai')

is this mr bai's residence?

yes, who are you looking for? speak up. (or 'who do u want to talk to', both possible)

please let mr bai answer the phone.

speaking, may i know who is that? (may i know who you are?)

on the whole this pinyin is pretty informal (not incorrect, just informal. some chinese people speak like that). if you are learning as a beginner do not follow this style.

高:請白先生說話。

高:请白先生说话。

Gāo: Qǐng Bái xiānsheng shuōhuà.

I would like to speak to Mr Bai, please.

白:我就是。請問,您是誰?

白:我就是。请问,您是谁?

Bái: Wǒ jiùshì. Qǐngwèn nín shì shuí?

This is Mr Bai speaking. Who’s calling, please?
