jadeblomma Posted July 3, 2010 at 09:12 PM Report Posted July 3, 2010 at 09:12 PM I have just read and watched Raising the Red Lantern. In the book the names Joy, Cloud, Coral and Lotus is used for the four mistresses, and Swallow for the first servant of Lotus. In the film, apart from 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th mistress, the names Zhouyun, Meishan, Songlian, Yaner etc is used. Are the English names exact translations of these Chinese names, i.e. for instance, does Songlian mean Lotus? Quote
