Brian US Posted July 9, 2010 at 01:02 AM Report Posted July 9, 2010 at 01:02 AM Seems those weatherpersons have the only occupation where you can be wrong most of the time and still keep your job. Quote
Glenn Posted July 9, 2010 at 01:05 AM Report Posted July 9, 2010 at 01:05 AM There aren't many professions where your sole job is predicting the future. But look at any other group of experts' predictions and compare. Are the weathermen really that much worse? Quote
Brian US Posted July 9, 2010 at 01:16 AM Report Posted July 9, 2010 at 01:16 AM There aren't many professions where your sole job is predicting the future. But look at any other group of experts' predictions and compare. Are the weathermen really that much worse? I'm just more bitter about the weather and take it too personal. I get more upset getting caught in the rain, than a bad stock tip. Quote
Glenn Posted July 9, 2010 at 01:27 AM Report Posted July 9, 2010 at 01:27 AM I can see that, unless you were with Madoff. Quote
GreenArrow45 Posted July 9, 2010 at 01:47 AM Report Posted July 9, 2010 at 01:47 AM if you live in Hong Kong you should go to Balalaika (i think thats the name) and just spend lots of time in the ice bar part, i found it to be quite refreshing Quote
roddy Posted July 9, 2010 at 12:55 PM Author Report Posted July 9, 2010 at 12:55 PM Well, this makes a bit of a change. Where's everyone hiding from the rain then? Quote
Brian US Posted July 9, 2010 at 01:39 PM Report Posted July 9, 2010 at 01:39 PM Well, this makes a bit of a change. Where's everyone hiding from the rain then? My scooter broke down, so I had a pleasant 30 minute walk home (I'm wet...and cranky). Quote
roddy Posted July 9, 2010 at 01:42 PM Author Report Posted July 9, 2010 at 01:42 PM Did you have your fan with you? /runs, hides Quote
Brian US Posted July 9, 2010 at 01:47 PM Report Posted July 9, 2010 at 01:47 PM Did you have your fan with you? A disappointing no on that one. Don't underestimate the power of a hand fan, as a skilled Chinese elder could probably part the Red Sea with one. I was fortunate enough to have a wet 20 kuai note on me that was used to purchase a bottle of 二锅头. Quote
roddy Posted July 9, 2010 at 03:11 PM Author Report Posted July 9, 2010 at 03:11 PM Guess who got three quarters of the way home and utterly soaked before realizing he did, in fact, have an umbrella. I'm not sure I've ever seen it rain this long and this hard before. Quote
Brian US Posted July 10, 2010 at 06:07 AM Report Posted July 10, 2010 at 06:07 AM Looks like it will rain for the next week straight. I'd take the heat over the humidity. Quote
gougou Posted July 10, 2010 at 06:10 AM Report Posted July 10, 2010 at 06:10 AM Agreed, jbradfor. Even though it feels nice to be able to breathe after running (found out yesterday after dashing for a taxi), rather like somebody stuffed the Gobi desert down your throat. Quote
jbradfor Posted July 10, 2010 at 09:35 PM Report Posted July 10, 2010 at 09:35 PM Thanks for the agreement! But are you sure it was I with whom you were agreeing? Quote
Flying Pigeon Posted July 11, 2010 at 12:24 PM Report Posted July 11, 2010 at 12:24 PM Hot and humid in Guangzhou. The weather and scenery remind me of Hawaii and the Philipines. Started to rain this afternoon, but didn't last very long. Had to sleep with the AC on last night. Quote
gougou Posted July 13, 2010 at 02:46 AM Report Posted July 13, 2010 at 02:46 AM Thanks for the agreement! But are you sure it was I with whom you were agreeing?Oh, I agree with you on everything. But in this case, I actually meant Brian US. Quote
roddy Posted July 14, 2010 at 02:59 AM Author Report Posted July 14, 2010 at 02:59 AM Is it just me, or has the light outside gone a very funny colour? I think it's probably going to get a bit biblical out there. Torrential rain at the very least, but I'm not ruling out the possibility of dust and locusts. Or it could just be the sun coming out. Bought a pillow mat thing - 竹丝枕套 - from the supermarket. It's a bit hard for sleeping on to be honest, I ended up throwing it aside. Quote
Brian US Posted July 14, 2010 at 10:44 AM Report Posted July 14, 2010 at 10:44 AM Looks like it may clear up a little at the beginning of next week. I know we had record snow falls this year, but does it normally rain this much? Quote
roddy Posted July 14, 2010 at 11:23 AM Author Report Posted July 14, 2010 at 11:23 AM Generally rains a lot in the hot months. Where we stand in comparison to other years I don't know, but it's not a Beijing summer if you aren't being drenched either by sweat or rain. Quote
Kobo-Daishi Posted July 15, 2010 at 08:54 AM Report Posted July 15, 2010 at 08:54 AM Dear all, We've had a rather mild summer out here in southern California. In fact, we've had mild summers the last few years. Don't know if global warming has turned all the weather topsy turvy or what. I, so far, haven't had to turn on the AC once this summer. Though this week it's supposed to hot up a bit. In fact, yesterday it was in the high 80's with tomorrow expected to go up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit. I'm afraid you'll have to do the math. We don't do Celsius here in the states. I might have to turn on the AC but luckily no one is home in the day time and at night it really cools down a lot. With the lows in the mid- to high 60s. Kobo-Daishi, PLLA. Quote
roddy Posted July 16, 2010 at 12:28 AM Author Report Posted July 16, 2010 at 12:28 AM Been a week or so now since we even saw the sun. Getting a bit boring if you ask me. Quote
