morganie Posted July 8, 2010 at 05:24 PM Report Posted July 8, 2010 at 05:24 PM I know a decent amount of characters and Mandarin grammar, but I could only get the gist of these sentences' meanings even after I knew all of the words' meanings (and looked up what I didn't know). For example: 1 緝拿 - 蓝神. 劫持降世神通 頭戴蓝色土國面具 身份不明外傳為鬼之說不足信 如探得行踪須全力似赴 2 庆祝烈火節 傳統烈火國美味食品 烈火國文化展雜技魔術 運火師木偶戲烟火 使你如置身於烈火國 Are they in classical or vernacular Chinese? Quote
Daan Posted July 8, 2010 at 05:46 PM Report Posted July 8, 2010 at 05:46 PM That's in vernacular Chinese, but it makes little sense to me. Where did you find those sentences? It appears as if this is related to an American animated television series called Avatar: The Last Airbender, which is called 降世神通:最後的氣宗 in Mandarin. There's four "nations" in that series, of which the 烈火國 is one. 運火, in turn, is a skill its inhabitants are renowned for. But I've never seen (or even heard of) that series, so I haven't a clue if this is in any way related, or what it might all mean! Quote
morganie Posted July 8, 2010 at 05:59 PM Author Report Posted July 8, 2010 at 05:59 PM Yeah, it's from the cartoon. I was just curious when I was watching it so I looked them up. Quote
Daan Posted July 8, 2010 at 06:36 PM Report Posted July 8, 2010 at 06:36 PM So which words do you know or did you look up? We can try to translate them, but without knowing the series, it's pretty difficult to understand those sentences. Quote
Farkas Posted July 9, 2010 at 01:58 AM Report Posted July 9, 2010 at 01:58 AM I think the children may have more understanding about this. Quote
