A chinese name.

Hi! I've started to study Chinese (a total newbie) on my own so I don't have any teacher who would give me a chinese name. My Finnish first name is Arttu and it means a bear. My last name means a pig so I think it's not good for a chinese name. Any ideas for a name? Would 熊 be a good family name? What about the given name? I tried to translate my first name to chinese (that it would sound the same), but I'm pretty sure it isn't possible. Maybe Arthur is possible to translate? This is so complicated.. :D

Thank you.

PS. Sorry, I know this may be a irritating question, but I really would like to have a chinese name too. :)

|EDIT| Hey, would 熊 小 be a good name?

Hei!

Ihan vaan kuriositeetin vuoksi: mikä sukunimesi oikein on? Sika? Possu? Emakko?

In Chinese, pig (豬) has another word with same pronunciation which means red (朱) and is a common Chinese surname. There is another word pronounced as 熊(bear), that is 雄(male, great, hero) also a commonly used in Chinese name.

So if you want to keep your own name, you could be called 朱雄. If you still want to keep away from being related to '豬熊', simply add a '少' (young; little) in the middle.

So the whole name is Zhu1 shao4 xiong2 朱少雄.

Quick name related question - my teacher is a bit scatterbrained, and so I'm just wondering if

莫杰琳 is in fact a name and not something crazy she made up. Most people in my class name names that sound a lot like their English names, and 杰琳 doesn't sound a lot like Jacki. I like the name, I'm just wondering if it's a real, or good Chinese name.

熊 is a family name. Remember the diving ex-world champion 熊倪 (Xiong Ni)? It can be used as a given name too, no problem. But 豬熊 /朱熊 do not sound right.

偉熊 (great bear, meaning strong) is a good male given name.

Can you tell us your surname in Finnish?

Maybe 吳 would fit. It is Chinese surname and also sounds almost the same as first letter in your surname.

吳偉熊 ???? Seems to me all right. 8)

I think 吳偉熊 (Wu Weixiong/great bear) or 吳少熊 (Wu Shaoxiong/young bear) are both good.

Thank you for your answers. But what does "吳" (Wu?) mean?

And are the characters 吳 少 熊 same in both, simplified and traditional?
