Mobile dataplan for smartphones in China?

Can anyone tell me with which provider I can access mobile Internet the best/fastest. I am willing to pay for good bandwith and connection.

Any recommendations ?

Are you planning to buy a new phone? If not, you're basically tied to whichever provider has the license for whatever your current phone uses.

Oh, that's unfortunate, I own a HTC Desire and certainly don't intend to buy a new one, how do I find out which one I have to use ?

Seems to be my case as well (I am an owner of Samsung B7610). China Unicom it is then (during my previous stays in China, I was with China Mobile).

It does help Duncan, thanks. But it seems a bit outdated (October 09), maybe the rates have changed.

Ideally I would love to have one of the lower plans but with more bandwith, does anyone know if it's possible to buy an additional 1GB or so ?

And these "Wireless Internet Modem plans", are these just USB sticks or is it actually a Sim card that you I could insert in my Netbook with 3G modem to truly be online all the time ?
