So what's your favourite Chinese vocabulary item ending in a neutral tone? I don't think anything with 子 should count, too easy, but if you really want to I'll allow it.

Mine's 教训, jiàoxun.

I like the ones where the first tone becomes neutral, like 意思. They sound so much more... laid back than if you'd pronounce them with a final first tone. :)

Hmmm, I was thinking earlier that fourth to neutral is nice, which is what 意思 is. So I think that's why you like that one.

Interestingly, I find that 意思 is often pronounced yìsī. I like it both ways. B)

小姐。Oh no, wait...

I know it ends in a 子, but this ↑ reminded me of 打兔子

东北话 for 泡妞儿 (although it may not be current anymore...)

I assume reduplicated single-character words don't count? B)

I think mine would be 利害.

there are general rules but in china northerners tends to put everything neutral whereas southerners everything solid. its interesting to hear them speak.

one typical example will be 'gua' (gourds and melons). the standard chinese says no neutral-tone, must pronounce it. northerners will give you all the xigua, huanggua and nangua with neutral.

After watching TV series 茶馆, 得嘞 is now my favorite, it's just like to say “it's all right” in English.
