zhouhaochen Posted July 14, 2010 at 11:38 PM Report Posted July 14, 2010 at 11:38 PM now, this might be a long shot, as there is obviously not much supply of inexpensive & good hostels in business areas in any city, but I was wondering if there is really none in Beijing. Searching in the CBD (Guo Mao or east of it)? I looked and didnt find anything, there are of course the chain hotels (如家 etc.) and some cheaper older hotels, but they are still all 200+ RMB and usually pretty run down. Anyone knows of a nice hostel that might appeal to an overseas visitor in the Guo Mao and eastwards area? I know loads in 东城 but nothing around there.... Quote
roddy Posted July 15, 2010 at 12:16 AM Report Posted July 15, 2010 at 12:16 AM Google Maps is showing me a BP International Hostel (insert oil leak joke here) and a Discovery Youth Hostel to the south west and north east of Guomao. Don't know anything about either of them. There should also be a few around Wangfujing which puts you only a few subway stops away, or up line 10 around Sanlitun. Quote
zhouhaochen Posted July 20, 2010 at 01:32 AM Author Report Posted July 20, 2010 at 01:32 AM went to Discovery Hostel yesterday. Its alright, while quite simple. 118RMB for a single room and 68RMB for a bed in a room shared between 3. All showers and toilets are communal, they are ok, while not amazing. The building is in a sub-terrain, meaning no or very small windows in the rooms. They have a small but tidy communal area with the normal hostel information you would find (travel books, trips to the great wall etc.). If you want to stay somewhere cheap and backpacker friendly in the CBD area, its probably one of your best choices. We are negotiating for a discount for our students right now, maybe they go down a bit. Quote
