So I recently acquired a puppy after it was being kicked about by some Chinese people who then offered it to me saying they don't like dogs and would probably kill. Anyways, I am wondering what are some common Chinese names for dogs or names that would just be very strange for a dog. I want to give him both a Chinese and English name.

Thanks

In this part of the world 旺財 and 阿旺 are about the most common dog names ... when I hear these names I tend to think about dogs.

But of course there are all sorts of name. But I wonder if a dog can identify itself to more than one name.

But I wonder if a dog can identify itself to more than one name.

Growing up, my family and I had about two or three different names for each dog. For example, we named one dog "Bubble Yum" after the brand of chewing gum, but then we started calling her Glen after a nerd that played on my soccer team. We also named a dog "Prince" after the brand of tennis racquets. When he was a puppy we sometimes called him "Baby Martha" (not sure why) and "Monster Baby". We called him "Lad" for awhile, the name of a dog from a children's grammar primer and then we settled on "Boober" (again, not sure why).

Looking back it probably led to some identity issues (especially with Boober), but overall they knew their names.

I want to give him both a Chinese and English name.

I think that's a good idea. What color is he? You could try to work that into his name.

When I was in Taiwan, my (Taiwanese) dormmate named his dog 小吃.

Thanks for the comments/suggestions! I'm leaning towards either 黑间 or 黑箭 i know it is basically the same (sounding) but I can't decide which I prefer in terms of meaning.

Jbradfor...I am guessing your roommate didn't have plans to eat his dog at some point did he?

Some would like to think that a pet helps bring luck. All my pets' names since childhood had to do with lucky.

The names of all the dogs that my family had ended with -y, Bobby, Lucky, Puppy etc.

來福 meaning comes the fortune

小+color (ex. 小黃, 小白, 小黑) defined by its color.

圓圓 if it's chubby.

My father used to keep a dog named Lucky when I was little.
