help me confirm a line of lyrics

I need help to confirm the lyrics from Gem Club's Fax. Here I extract the lyrics in question from here.

After listening to it twice, I found his second line is a bit dubious. So, can anyone help me confirm that the second line of the lyrics posted there is correct?

The lyrics goes as : leave him as a boy / his laugh divides the day in two.

But the vocal of 'his laugh' part does not sound like the lyrics. Perhaps I'm wrong. Thanks for your help.
