roddy Posted October 3, 2003 at 06:04 AM Report Posted October 3, 2003 at 06:04 AM Just got a CD yesterday by Xu Wei, 许巍, thanks to a tip on here from someone (can't remember who, I think niubi), and am loving it - basically it's what I should have been listening to all the time I've been listening to 对面的女孩 and telling myself it wasn't that bad. Wmacn.com for downloads (that's the page for Xu Wei, not the homepage. I also got a CD by Karen Mok, but you can't win them all. Roddy Quote

roddy Posted October 3, 2003 at 06:12 AM Author Report Posted October 3, 2003 at 06:12 AM Well, thankyou to whoever it was - it's somewhere in the 'favourite musicians' topic. It's even got me thinking about buying a guitar again . . . Roddy Quote
Tsunku Posted October 3, 2003 at 06:44 AM Report Posted October 3, 2003 at 06:44 AM I'm the Xu Wei fanatic around here I think. I adore him. My boyfriend got me hooked, he would play his songs on guitar around the house a lot. "两天" "情人" and "完美生活" are my favorites of his songs. There are a few songs that are a bit cheesy for me, but they're few and far between. If you haven't checked out Xu Wei yet, it's well worth it. He's gone over very well even with my friends who don't understand Chinese. Quote
niubi Posted October 3, 2003 at 06:50 AM Report Posted October 3, 2003 at 06:50 AM i never met xu wei, but i knew fellow former label mates cobra and catcher in the rye. i like some of his stuff, but i wouldn't say that i myself am i big fan. Quote
Tsunku Posted October 3, 2003 at 07:14 AM Report Posted October 3, 2003 at 07:14 AM He was getting really popular in Kunming while I was there. He wrote a song about Yunnan and I think that endeared him to the locals. Anywhere I went (around the campus area especially) I'd hear him playing in stores and bars. I dunno if he's as popular in other parts of the country, but he had a pretty big following in km. Quote
niubi Posted October 6, 2003 at 01:42 AM Report Posted October 6, 2003 at 01:42 AM xu wei is currently producing the female pop-rocker 'jessica' jiang xin as well as writing some of her music. her album will be released on modern sky's m2 label. Quote
tetsuo500 Posted December 9, 2003 at 11:00 AM Report Posted December 9, 2003 at 11:00 AM Hey! Don't knock 对面的女孩看钩来!!! I love that song! ok, ok, so it's pretty tacky... but it reminds me of my first night in China at karaoke. I've just been listening to some Xu Wei. He's great! I'm so glad I found this site. Finally, I can get some answers to my questions. Quote

As far as I can figure out, most Chinese people say they like him when you mention the name, but not so many actually own any CDs. I've heard him being played in fast-food restaurants and clothing stores lately, so he can't be that obscure . . . Roddy Quote
