bryce1 Posted August 28, 2010 at 02:21 AM Report Posted August 28, 2010 at 02:21 AM 大家/Hello everyone! I have a question about the pronunciation of the word: 嫉妒. In my dictionary, it is listed as ji2du4. However, I have many times heard 嫉 pronounced ji4. It almost sounds like it is "ji4du5". I was wondering: is this a Beijing pronunciation? Which one is more common/standard? Are both acceptable in standard speech? Thanks in advance for your help! Quote

doraemon Posted August 28, 2010 at 09:32 AM Report Posted August 28, 2010 at 09:32 AM Oh, thanks yann. I've always thought that 嫉妒 was pronounced ji4 du4, but I after reading your correction and checking the dictionary, I just realised that it is ji2 du4. It also says on 百度 that a lot of people confuse 嫉妒 with 忌妒. Anyway, I tend to pronounce the 妒 in 忌妒 as ji5, even though the word on its own should be ji4. Quote
