Hey guys,

Often when I walk into a fast food place in Taiwan I am unable to read or pronounce anything on the menu (I'm not very good at Chinese yet), but I want to be able to point to the item on the menu and say "I would like this one please" or "Can I please order this one" (pointing at the same time).

I can't say 我要这个 can I? That's a bit too rude right? Is there a more polite way?

I'm guessing“我要这个”would be slightly rude, although I'm sure they wouldn't really mind since you're making an effort to order in a language that's not your native language.

But if you want to be politer, you can say something like “请来一份这个”. ;)

请来一份这个

请 = please

来 = come

一 = one

份 = portion

这个 = this

Please bring me an order of this...

Let's be realistic. He's in Taiwan, so he should say 『請來一份這個』. If he speaks in simplified characters, they might misunderstand. :P
