yonglan Posted January 1, 2005 at 12:08 PM Report Posted January 1, 2005 at 12:08 PM I saw another C-C-E dict, this one with a CD. Badly laid out. The name is almost the same in Chinese, they just added 'xin1'. The English name was quite different, I can't remember what it was. The publisher was Yanbian Daxue. Quote
yonglan Posted January 16, 2005 at 05:45 AM Report Posted January 16, 2005 at 05:45 AM Ok, here's a better example. I was watching TV last night and it was one of those old time sagas. Someone kept calling the other guy 閣老. Ironically, the way things were situated in my room, the book about which this thread speaks was nearest (I've now banished it from sight!). It didn't have it. FLTRP's new "A New Century C-E Dict." didn't have it, despite it's claim of 140,000 words. But Comm Press' "New Age" (though it has slightly less words) had it. Now, could I have gone on to live a fulfilling life without knowing what 閣老 means? Probably. But why ask the question when I had a dictionary that could tell me the answer? Haven't picked up the simpl. ABCC yet, so I'll have to see if they have it. Quote
Madot Posted June 24, 2006 at 10:32 PM Report Posted June 24, 2006 at 10:32 PM I realise this thread is comparing paper-based dictionaries, but does anyone know which would be the best bilingual Eng>Ch/Ch>Eng electronic dictionary? I've heard there are ones which will input English, pinyin OR characters and some even pronounce the word for you, but I don't have the names or websites to compare them. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks in advance. Mado PS you can email me privately if you don't think the thread-users are interested. Quote
