rezaf Posted August 30, 2010 at 04:47 AM Report Posted August 30, 2010 at 04:47 AM One of my friends is going to Hongkong and I want him to buy me a Chinese-Chinese(Putonghua) dictionary in fantizi. I need a very complete dictionary with lots of examples. Do you have any suggestions? (I know there are lots of Taiwanese dictionaries but I want something that I can find in Hongkong or in mainland) Thanks in advance Quote
skylee Posted August 30, 2010 at 11:09 AM Report Posted August 30, 2010 at 11:09 AM The last dictionary I bought was the traditional version of 現代漢語詞典 published by the HK Commercial Press. Basically it is the same as the simplified version and I think it is pretty good, though I am not sure if it meets your requirement of lots of examples. It should be available in bigger bookstores like 商務 and 三聯. The only thing that I don't like about it is that it does not list Cantonese pronunciations, but then you probably don't need them. And the online dictionary of the Taiwan Ministry of Education is always an excellent (and free of charge) tool. Quote
wai ming Posted August 30, 2010 at 11:21 AM Report Posted August 30, 2010 at 11:21 AM When I was in Hong Kong, I bought the 朗文中文高級新辭典 that skylee recommended here. I like it and I think it's a very "complete" dictionary, but it might not meet your criteria for "lots of examples". Quote
skylee Posted August 30, 2010 at 11:29 AM Report Posted August 30, 2010 at 11:29 AM hi wai ming, I am glad you like that dictionary. I think it is more useful for people who need / want to speak in Cantonese. But it is good. Quote
