hey everyone,

I just looked up 稱贊 in an etymological dictionary, but all I found was 稱讚. Now I looked it up in two other dictonaries. One lists chengzan in the first, the other in the second variation. I suppose it both means "praise" and is just a variation, but if someone has more specific information for why both variation exist or if there is a slight difference in meaning, that would be appriciated.

thanks

I doubt it makes much difference in the meaning of the word, but I've seen and used 称赞 a lot more than the other one.

@doraemon, 赞 is the simplified form of both 讚 and 贊.

My understanding was that 稱讚 is the preferred form; however, due to the closeness in meaning between 讚 and 贊, and the fact that the simplified form is the same, 稱贊 is not uncommon. Searching on google shows 7M+ hits for 稱讚, and 0.7M hits for 稱贊.
