querido Posted September 15, 2010 at 10:23 PM Author Report Share Posted September 15, 2010 at 10:23 PM Your welcome taijidan. I've received these from amazon.cn. Hardcover, stitched binding, about two illustrations per page, very nice. On sale, the price before shipping was about $20. 1. 《小学生组词造句词典》 is a book of characters that make compounds, a selection of important constructive characters, 3100 of them. Or, it's groups of words indexed by those chars. Here's something neat- the words don't necessarily *begin* with that char, and *that's* a special feature (I think). The head-character is followed by a numbered list of usages (as in a dictionary), then vertical-bar separated lists of compounds, then illustrative sentences often having vertical-bar separated alternate constructions. (pinyin for head-char only) 644 pages. 2. 《小学生成语词典》 The chengyu dictionary, containing 2684 of them, gives pinyin for the chengyu, a two or three sentence explanation, an illustrative sentence, and then *synonym and antonym constructions* almost all of which appear to be chengyus too. For example, 面黄肌瘦 lists 面有菜色 (in Wenlin but not in this book) as a synonym chengyu. Neat. (Those two coincidentally begin with the same character. Most don't.) 498 pages. 3. The cidian (5148 headwords 12000? words 964 pages) and zidian (5270 chars 836 pages) look as I linked above. The synonym and antonym dictionaries have interesting looking discussions I haven't figured out yet. 4. The English-Chinese cidian is a treat for me. It has 3781 headwords, 4500? total. It gives the pronunciation of the English in international symbols, the part of speech, one or more definitions (most just one), then for each definition an illustrative sentence in English and Chinese. E.g. heap- There is a heap of books at the entrance to the classroom. 教室门口有一堆书. Just right for me! 537 pages.
