Sp0cK Posted September 11, 2010 at 10:24 AM Report Share Posted September 11, 2010 at 10:24 AM I've been using ZDT for a year now - basically until I installed windows 7 and discovered I can't use it on windows 7 anymore. Many programs that I've tried are by far not as good as ZDT. It always showed a detailed description/definition of every word. Pablo is not bad, but can not handle sentences. What's a good alternative for ZDT? for offline use that is.
James Johnston Posted September 11, 2010 at 10:31 AM Report Share Posted September 11, 2010 at 10:31 AM Have you tried anki with the pinyin toolkit? It takes its definitions from cedict.
Hugh Posted September 11, 2010 at 08:24 PM Report Share Posted September 11, 2010 at 08:24 PM +1 for Anki with the pinyin toolkit. It covers a lot of the functionality of ZDT http://www.ichi2.net/anki/
abcdefg Posted September 11, 2010 at 09:17 PM Report Share Posted September 11, 2010 at 09:17 PM I've been using ZDT for a year now - basically until I installed windows 7 and discovered I can't use it on windows 7 anymore. I realize this isn't an answer to your query, but I use ZDT a lot. In fact I use it enough to make me *not* get Windows 7 if that will preclude continuing to use ZDT. Glad to know that those two programs don't play well together. Has anyone else had similar compatibility issues?
Sp0cK Posted September 12, 2010 at 05:20 AM Author Report Share Posted September 12, 2010 at 05:20 AM although Anki basically just does the flashcards - that's something I did not use in ZDT... I just used ZDT for copy pasting sentences or long word structures. though anki is great for flashcards!
Hugh Posted September 12, 2010 at 02:35 PM Report Share Posted September 12, 2010 at 02:35 PM Have you tried http://pin1yin1.com/ ? That does quite a good job of parsing and annotating texts in Chinese.
xianu Posted September 12, 2010 at 08:05 PM Report Share Posted September 12, 2010 at 08:05 PM There is some sort of fix that I found to use ZDT with Windows 7. When I had Windows 7 installed, I had the same problem, but somewhere on the zdt page, I found a patch for it. I have it installed now, and it works perfectly (still)

yonglin Posted September 15, 2010 at 04:56 PM Report Share Posted September 15, 2010 at 04:56 PM I'm running 0.7.0 on Windows 7, and I haven't had any issues. Exactly what kind of problems are you experiencing?
Sp0cK Posted September 16, 2010 at 01:12 AM Author Report Share Posted September 16, 2010 at 01:12 AM well, it worked on windows 7 for about a week without any problems. One day it just stopped launching - perhaps it's conflicting with some other program.
gato Posted September 16, 2010 at 01:15 AM Report Share Posted September 16, 2010 at 01:15 AM Time to reinstall Windows. More seriously, try creating a new user under Windows and run ZDT from there. If it works under the new user, then it would confirm your software conflict theory.

jbradfor Posted September 16, 2010 at 03:33 AM Report Share Posted September 16, 2010 at 03:33 AM Alternatively, your user.script file might have gotten corrupted, or your installed version of ZDT. Copy your user.script file somewhere safe, erase all your ZDT directory, reinstall. Try to start ZDT. If it starts, copy over your old user.script file. If it doesn't start (which is my guess), that file got corrupted.

Runs smoothly again ^^

He probably also should backup his data files. Good point. I was pretty sure (based on no evidence ] that the problem was not a software conflict, but rather something got corrupted, so he'd need to do that anyway. But you're right, your suggestion would be a quicker way to check.
