Buying electronics in Beijing

Which places do you recommend for buying electronic devices (computers and all related stuff, hi-fi, ...) in Beijing? I went to Zhongguancun, but would also like to go to other places. Which is the best place regarding quality and price?

Don't forget to compare store prices with taobao.com.

Last time I was buying a karaoke machine, taobao vendors were selling at half price of Gome.

Online purchases are riskier than buying from stores. But it's becoming a trend.

Top City in Zhongguancun is the best (and the cheapest after bargaining). As long as you know what you want, the price abroad (like USA) and can differentiate a counterfeit from an authentic one, you can buy there. From my experience, all the laptops and digital cameras are genuine. There are imitation cellphones but they really look like fakes, specially the user interface.

I always went to Zhongguancun, but of course, buyer beware. Directly north of the main strip you will find a second hand market. Directly south and one block east of the main strip you will find (forget name) an electronics market for more hardware. I only went with my engineering friend (so a different language), but he went for LED and boards.
