ipmperry Posted September 17, 2010 at 07:59 AM Report Posted September 17, 2010 at 07:59 AM I experimented using the Pimsleur course this last term with my high school students and it returned some amazing results. Far superior to any other method I've used. I was wondering if anyone is using this method in a live classroom situation and if so how do they do it. Quote
taijidan Posted September 18, 2010 at 08:08 AM Report Posted September 18, 2010 at 08:08 AM I started off with Pimsleur and think it's awesome. One thing you might want to look at is: http://people.pwf.cam.ac.uk/ssb22/gradint/ It's a free software that allows you to create pimsleur style audio lessons. It does have some kind of teacher mode, but I haven't looked at that part in detail. Quote

M.E.Townsend Posted September 18, 2010 at 08:46 AM Report Posted September 18, 2010 at 08:46 AM I myself used Primsleur to learn Spanish and Chinese. I think they are designed for individual usage, aren't they? Curious how you use this method in classroom setting. Quote
ipmperry Posted September 20, 2010 at 04:54 AM Author Report Posted September 20, 2010 at 04:54 AM I haven't been able to find any reference to using this method in a classroom situation as yet on the net, but I think it would be easy to do, it's just that it will take some time to prepare the text for delivery. It's not so different to the way I teach the oral part of my classes now actually. Not asking the students to write what they are saying in class will speed up their language acquisition a lot - in fact now that I think about it I dont know why I havent pursued this before. Probably the answer to that is that we are required to assess reading and writing - don't know how I can avoid doing that. Quote
