sthubbar Posted September 18, 2010 at 04:20 PM Report Posted September 18, 2010 at 04:20 PM A friend of mine has asked me to help him develop a course about doing business with China. He asked me to find out what people want to know about doing business with China. If you will let us know your questions about doing business with China, we will send you a free copy of the course before it is released to the public. Your questions can be anything, even if you think it's silly. Go here to submit your questions. Thank you so much for helping make this the best "Your Guide to China" possible. roddy Posted September 19, 2010 at 12:24 AM Report Posted September 19, 2010 at 12:24 AM 1) What qualifications do you have to be writing this course? Quote
Mandyding Posted September 19, 2010 at 03:30 AM Report Posted September 19, 2010 at 03:30 AM definitely an ad post, the link can not be opened, I guess it block china Ip. Quote
sthubbar Posted September 19, 2010 at 03:38 AM Author Report Posted September 19, 2010 at 03:38 AM Roddy, That's a great question. I'll make sure it get's addressed. Mandy, I tested this without a VPN enabled and it seems to work from Beijing. What part of China are you trying from? Is anyone else, besides me, able to access the original link here from within China? Quote
Mandyding Posted September 19, 2010 at 04:12 AM Report Posted September 19, 2010 at 04:12 AM never mind, I can access it now, I would like to know what kind course you can give, does it charge? Quote
roddy Posted September 19, 2010 at 04:32 AM Report Posted September 19, 2010 at 04:32 AM 2) Why does your question-gathering methodology look so much like a technique to gather email addresses for future 'marketing'. Quote
GaHanna Posted September 19, 2010 at 05:21 AM Report Posted September 19, 2010 at 05:21 AM I couldn't be bothered to open the link so I will address my question from here. 3) Why post an ad for a guide to China on a website that is quite frankly, the best guide to China? Quote
sthubbar Posted September 19, 2010 at 11:37 AM Author Report Posted September 19, 2010 at 11:37 AM Mandy, The course is being developed. If you have things you'd like included just send us your questions and when it has been developed you can get a free copy. Roddy & GaHanna, There are plans to offer future products that go more into detail about specific areas that people express interest. We are asking people on this forum specifically because it is the best guide to China. This forum has tons of good information and helpful people that share how to learn Chinese. This is still a great place for Chinese language schools to ask people, even those who have already learned Chinese, about how to teach Chinese. I appreciate your feedback. gato Posted September 19, 2010 at 11:50 AM Report Posted September 19, 2010 at 11:50 AM People are not going to spend time posing you questions or giving you their suggestions if they don't know your qualifications. I think people on this forum only know you as a Chinese language student. Quote
anonymoose Posted September 19, 2010 at 11:52 AM Report Posted September 19, 2010 at 11:52 AM Why are his qualifications important when it's his friend who's developing the course? Quote
gato Posted September 19, 2010 at 12:09 PM Report Posted September 19, 2010 at 12:09 PM Maybe his friend should be posting his qualifications here then. It's hard to tell from the posts above and the website who exactly is developing the course. The OP's friend's seems to want to remain anonymous (-moose?) for some reason. Quote

abcdefg Posted September 19, 2010 at 02:13 PM Report Posted September 19, 2010 at 02:13 PM The link (www.guidetochina.com) opens a page that only has the author's "gathering information" ad. No other content that I can discover, even though the text says: I'm putting the finishing touches on a new course called "Your Guide to China", and want to make sure that I don't leave anything out. That doesn't inspire much confidence in me and sounds more like a way to build a mailing list than anything else. Quote
James Johnston Posted September 19, 2010 at 03:49 PM Report Posted September 19, 2010 at 03:49 PM 5) How can I tell if this Chinese business license is genuine? 1 Quote
Erbse Posted September 19, 2010 at 07:42 PM Report Posted September 19, 2010 at 07:42 PM Hi sthubbar, I have a tons of questions, but the page where you want me to ask the questions really stops me doing so. Looks kind of childish. If your friend registers here and starts his own thread, including a short self introduction, a fruitful discussion surely will be there. Quote
sthubbar Posted September 20, 2010 at 10:03 AM Author Report Posted September 20, 2010 at 10:03 AM Gato, You are correct. 4 years ago when I moved to China, I spent the first year as a Chinese language student. For the past 3 years I've been doing business in China. We don't profess to be the ultimate authorities on doing business in China. We plan on using some of our own knowledge as well as consulting associates and other people with experience doing business in China. We would like to package this information in an easy to understand and useful format for as many people as possible. Erbse, I did the website. You are right, I'm not much of a web designer. Quote
roddy Posted September 20, 2010 at 10:17 AM Report Posted September 20, 2010 at 10:17 AM Would you like to offer some review copies of what you've got so far to forum members? Quote
sthubbar Posted September 21, 2010 at 06:45 AM Author Report Posted September 21, 2010 at 06:45 AM Roddy, If you or anyone else is serious. I would love to treat you to something nice to drink and meet in person to talk, one-on-on or as a group. What is the name of that cafe on the East side of Beijing Normal University where we met? The Tube Station? I haven't been there in probably 3 years or more. If it's still there and you hang out there, we could meet there. Otherwise, I'm partial to The Bridge Cafe, in Wudaokou, or open to other suggestions. 1 Quote
sthubbar Posted November 5, 2010 at 05:51 PM Author Report Posted November 5, 2010 at 05:51 PM Thanks to those of you that provided feedback. We are still working on finalizing the products. The first version of the website is up with some intro content. YourGuideToChina.com I'll let you know when we have more complete content that more fully addresses your questions. Thanks. Quote
anonymoose Posted November 6, 2010 at 12:17 AM Report Posted November 6, 2010 at 12:17 AM If your friend is developing the course, why does the whole site seem to revolve around you? Quote
