gato Posted September 19, 2010 at 01:34 AM Report Posted September 19, 2010 at 01:34 AM How many have seen it? There was an article in the Guardian about it today. Sounds a lot like the Italian series "The Best of Youth", which was wonderful. http://www.guardian.co.uk/tv-and-radio/2010/sep/18/our-friends-flannery-eccleston Quote
James Johnston Posted September 19, 2010 at 07:00 AM Report Posted September 19, 2010 at 07:00 AM I saw it when it was first on TV in the 1990s. It was an excellent social history of Britain, making great drama from issues around urban planning. Very clever story telling that was able to tie the narrative together across several decades by reconnecting with the lead characters once every few years. The actors looked too old at the beginning and too young at the end, but you chose not to notice because of the quality of the rest of it. For other great British TV of the 90s see Cracker. Quote
skylee Posted September 19, 2010 at 02:46 PM Report Posted September 19, 2010 at 02:46 PM Love "The Best of Youth". 1st class drama. Excellent film. Why exactly was that Christopher Eccleston has not taken off? He seemed so very promising in "Jude". Quote
roddy Posted September 19, 2010 at 02:48 PM Report Posted September 19, 2010 at 02:48 PM Not taken off!?!?! He was DOCTOR WHO!!!!! I've never actually seen this, will need to get hold of it. Quote
skylee Posted September 19, 2010 at 02:54 PM Report Posted September 19, 2010 at 02:54 PM I have seen many episodes of Doctor Who. It was good fun, though confusing at times. But Kate Winslet, who was also in "Jude", is doing so much better IMHO. Quote
abcdefg Posted September 19, 2010 at 11:55 PM Report Posted September 19, 2010 at 11:55 PM Not taken off!?!?! He was DOCTOR WHO!!!!! Quick, let's get to the Tardis. We've got to repel the invasion of the Daleks. (Bet you didn't know Texas boys had even heard of the good doctor.) Quote
roddy Posted September 20, 2010 at 01:22 PM Report Posted September 20, 2010 at 01:22 PM Just watching the first episode - very good stuff, gritty political family drama I'd describe it as. Good luck with the accents, everyone Quote
gato Posted September 20, 2010 at 01:43 PM Author Report Posted September 20, 2010 at 01:43 PM Where you find it? Is the accent as bad as Trainspotting? Hehe. Quote
roddy Posted September 20, 2010 at 02:18 PM Report Posted September 20, 2010 at 02:18 PM Private torrent tracker, I'm afraid. The accents should be marginally more comprehensible than Trainspotting - I'd imagine there are clips on Youtube if you want to test your skillz. Quote
gato Posted September 20, 2010 at 03:45 PM Author Report Posted September 20, 2010 at 03:45 PM Sounds like English to me. Quote
xianhua Posted September 20, 2010 at 05:39 PM Report Posted September 20, 2010 at 05:39 PM I recall the occasion on which I was introduced to a Dr Hu in central Hubei. Sadly, I was the only person in the vicinity who found it remotely entertaining. If you want to check out some other top quality British entertainment then check out the BBC's recent adaptation of Sherlock Holmes - mobile phones 'en all. Quote
