abcdefg Posted September 19, 2010 at 02:03 PM Report Posted September 19, 2010 at 02:03 PM does 互相 translate directly to "each other" or is there no direct translation? Yes, it means "each other" and also means "mutual" as in "mutual assistance." You do put it before the verb in such constructs. 互相帮助。 Quote
James Johnston Posted September 19, 2010 at 02:20 PM Report Posted September 19, 2010 at 02:20 PM I'm sure there are lots of ways to say these things, but here are some suggestions: "understand each other" = 互相理解 "love each other" = is probably better expressed as 相亲相爱. Less strong would be 互相喜欢 (which requires 互相尊重 or "mutual respect") "listen to each other" = 互相讨论 approximately or 互相理解 or 互相尊重 from above. Depends exactly what you think "listen to each other" means, because it's not really supposed to be taken literally. "mutual assistance" = 互相帮助 Quote

bhchao Posted September 19, 2010 at 09:19 PM Report Posted September 19, 2010 at 09:19 PM "love each other" = is probably better expressed as 相亲相爱 You could also say 互相親愛, which is stronger in my opinion. Quote
yann Posted September 20, 2010 at 03:40 AM Report Posted September 20, 2010 at 03:40 AM 彼此(pron.) can be thought of "each other", and as with 互相(adv.) can have a "mutual" meaning as well. We always use "互相+V." so "understand each other" is 互相理解 "listen to each other"互相倾听,but "love each other"should be 彼此相爱 and "do things for each other"should be 为彼此做一些事情 Quote
