Buying property in Dalian

I am currently in the States, but I'm planning on moving to Dalian for good (or at least for a very long time). About how much would it cost to buy a place there?

Anything from about 200000 RMB to 10000000 RMB.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, you have to live there for a year before you can buy a property.

By which time property prices will have doubled. Or totally collapsed. Or stayed about the same. Impossible to tell really.

Plus, by that time you will probably have to pay property tax. As I'm sure you already know, currently China does not have what many Westerners call a property tax. They only pay 'property' tax at the time of purchase (2%?). However, the govt. has realized it is missing out on a dragon boat sized amount revenue. Some say the tax will start in the 1st tier cities by 2011 or 2012. You may need to add this figure to your savings calculations but how one calculates that figure is anyone's guess.
