Great Chinese Orators and Public Speaking Skills

Recommended Posts

I'm working on a project about presentation skills and public speaking. I have read this post on giving a presentation on presentation skills, but more specifically I've curious to determine what others feel/think about:

1. Who are China's best orators/public speakers (living or dead)? For this, if you could provide a video clip and/or a transcript of some of their speeches it would help a lot.

2. For the Chinese, what makes someone a good speaker?

3. What are some common phrases and cultural practices used when speaking in public and giving presentations?

4. What are some major cultural differences between East and West regarding tone, vocabulary, delivery, etc?

Thanks in advance for everyone's help!

The questions come across a little like asking people to do your homework. Hehe.

Anyway, I think the following people are pretty impressive speakers. All of them have a teaching background. Ma Yun used to be a high school teacher.

贺卫方 (PKU Law professor)

Thanks to everyone who has contributed thus far.

I've compiled some typical(?) phrases which I've found both around here (thanks to Scoobyqueen for keeping that thread updated!) and on the net. As you can see, I've got a good amount for beginning and ending a speech/presentation, but not much for the middle bits.

Any suggestions on phrases to emphasize points, link arguments, etc? Also, can you think of anything more eloquent for stating / transitioning points aside from 首先,其次,再次,最后, or are these commonly used in formal presentations?
