Hi

Sometimes when I chat with friends from China, they end their sentences with 哦。

I understand how 呢,啊,works...but how does 哦 work?

Thank you

You kinda throw it in for "cute emphasis"...hard to explain, but you see it enough and you'll start using it too. It's addictive. I think it comes from Korean.

Not to be confused with the "oh" usage of the character, as in 哦,我明白了.

Maybe not, but there was this one scene in 我爱我家 where the dad reads aloud this letter to the editor (supposed to be symbolic of the lack of writing skills in the new generation), and it's got this drawn out 哦 at the end. Always thought there was some 韩流 stuff going on here...
