Jay Stansfield Posted September 30, 2010 at 01:20 PM Report Posted September 30, 2010 at 01:20 PM Hello! I am travelling to Hong Kong in a couple of weeks to evaluate how ICT is used in education. However I have shoulder length hair and I am a male. I also have a little soul patch on my chin. B) Out of curiosity and due to the fact that I will be representing the UK- how do you think I will be perceived? Are there any cultural beliefs or opinions about this kind of image? J x Quote
Yang Rui Posted October 1, 2010 at 04:10 PM Report Posted October 1, 2010 at 04:10 PM If this is you: http://www.jaystansfield.co.uk/, I went through the site and looked at pictures of you, and after careful consideration, I think you are fit to represent the UK. I guess in HK, long hair and facial hair is associated with slightly more arty types, but I don't think anyone will think you're criminal or anything. If you're just there to evaluate something, as opposed to selling life insurance or something, I don't think the hair will raise any eyebrows. 3 Quote

Outofin Posted October 1, 2010 at 06:05 PM Report Posted October 1, 2010 at 06:05 PM Men with long hair are either artists or beggars. Be sure to convince your audience you're not the latter. Quote

Jay Stansfield Posted October 1, 2010 at 07:45 PM Author Report Posted October 1, 2010 at 07:45 PM @skylee- Some collegues and I are visiting Primary Schools in Hong Kong to see how they use ICT in education, hopefully with the prospect of making some friends, new associates and even perhaps connecting some of the children over at our school to some of the children at the schools in Hong Kong. An amazing opportunity and a fantastic thing to experience... i'm very excited. Quote
Jay Stansfield Posted October 1, 2010 at 07:46 PM Author Report Posted October 1, 2010 at 07:46 PM @Outofin: Good point! I'll be at my best. I'll even have some nice shoes, a shirt and a tie on! I'll be representing the UK so I do intend to dress as smart as possible...but I may also sing a little too. Quote
Shelley Posted October 1, 2010 at 08:15 PM Report Posted October 1, 2010 at 08:15 PM Hello, I feel that I would like to suggest that if you have any worries, a quick trip to the barbers would just take the worry out of the visit. And hair does grow back. I do believe that you should be true to yourself and your lifestyle choices but sometimes it makes for a more harmonious time just to bend a little:) Good luck and enjoy Shelley Quote
