small tree Posted October 1, 2010 at 03:43 PM Report Posted October 1, 2010 at 03:43 PM it's safe to say there is little difference between 这个 and 这 这个 is somehow official while 这 is used in oral chinese Quote
马盖云 Posted October 2, 2010 at 12:44 AM Report Posted October 2, 2010 at 12:44 AM I'm hardly an expert, but so you will get at least one answer to your first question... The ge is a generic measure word, and is used between a number (or a specifier like 'this' or That') and a noun. So it has the sense of "one of whatever item you are talking about" So in this case, your questions translate to "What is this?" and What is this one?" repectively. Not much difference. If you were in the room with the person you were talking to, you might be pointing to a specific object. (like my first trip to china, all I could do was point to a menu and say "zhege...zhege..." to the pictures of food! :-) Quote
