anonymoose Posted October 5, 2010 at 03:10 PM Report Posted October 5, 2010 at 03:10 PM How would one say this in Chinese? With trading shares, you have an equal chance of making or losing money, but with gambling, the odds are always skewed in favour of the casino. It's mainly the second part that I can't figure out a good translation for. Quote
skylee Posted October 5, 2010 at 03:15 PM Report Posted October 5, 2010 at 03:15 PM Consider 股票可升可跌/有升有跌,賭博則輸多贏少。 1 Quote
anonymoose Posted October 5, 2010 at 03:24 PM Author Report Posted October 5, 2010 at 03:24 PM Thanks skylee. Did you translate it like that because a more literal translation wouldn't be as native-like? Quote
skylee Posted October 5, 2010 at 03:35 PM Report Posted October 5, 2010 at 03:35 PM I don't know. Why don't you share your version? Quote
anonymoose Posted October 5, 2010 at 04:12 PM Author Report Posted October 5, 2010 at 04:12 PM 炒股票时,赚钱和输钱的可能性基本上一样,但是对于赌博来说,赚钱的可能性歪曲向赌场那一边。 I know that's not very good, but it's all I could come up with with my limited Chinese. Quote
skylee Posted October 5, 2010 at 04:33 PM Report Posted October 5, 2010 at 04:33 PM You could consider using these words - 賠 / 賠錢 ; 贏 / 贏錢 ; 莊家. Personally I like putting ideas in chengyu-like expressions. In my city, 輸多贏少 is a very common expression. And we like to use 可升可跌/有升有跌 when we talk about investments. When we want to emphasise the risks involved, we use 可跌可升 instead. Government advice : 基金價格可升可跌 / 基金價格可跌可升. Quote
